Santa Paula Theatre Center Kicks off New Season
Ventura 12February 2019 -- The Santa Paula Theatre Center kicks off a tremendously interesting 2019 theatre season with Stephen Karam’s Tony Award winning The Humans starting at the beginning of February and running until 10 March. The Humans is a multi-leveled, complex sprawl of a play constructed around a Yonkers family’s Thanksgiving dinner at a daughter’s “walk down” ground-floor apartment in contemporary lower Manhattan.

“The power of fashion lies in its ability to transform identity and culture.” – Rhonda P. Hill
There is a new generation of designers that are fed up with fast and cheap fashion, over the top runway shows dominated by luxury brands, and the industry's superficial characteristics. And the big dirty little secret of that industry is that it is polluting the environment. Clothing and textiles are one of the largest polluting industries on the planet, right up there with oil. This new generation of designers believes brand identity is nothing without purpose. They stand their ground on creativity, innovation, and building a collection with meaning. "They are a courageous breed of designers who are going against the commercialized trend of 'more is more' and giving artistic value, a cultural face, and environmental consciousness to fashion", says Rhonda P. Hill.

Back-to-school season is an exciting time for both students and parents, but it can be a stressful time as well. For students, it can be intimidating taking on new classes and settings, all while juggling extracurricular activities. Meanwhile, parents face added financial and emotional stress that comes with a new school year, from purchasing school supplies and new clothing to learning to let go. Through it all, one constant between students and parents is the desire to stay connected. September 13 to November 12th, 2018
It’s summertime, and temperatures are on the rise. Whether relaxing at the pool, cheering for a favorite team or just hanging out with family and friends, keeping cool is at the top of the list. Nothing fancy needed — with a hat or cap to keep the sun away from the eyes, an umbrella for a bit of shade and a cold bunch of California grapes straight from the fridge or cooler, it is easy to take the sizzle out of hot summer days.
When it’s time to entertain, the grill can be a host’s best friend by making it a breeze to cook and relax outside at the same time. Grilled Flank Steak with Southwest Corn and Grape Salad is guaranteed to please the senses with its tasty flavors; beautiful color medley from red and green grapes, avocado and corn; and variety of pleasing textures.

Erik ReeL Showing at Butler Institute of American Art
4 June 2018-- Society805.com's own Art and Cultural contributing editor, Erik ReeL, has been selected to exhibit in the Butler Institute of American Art's 2018 midyear show. The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, was the first museum in the world dedicated solely to American Art and has a long and venerable history of showing the best in American Art since 1919. The exhibition will run from 1 July to 26 August 2018. ReeL also exhibited just last year in an international group exhibition at the CICA Museum in Seoul, South Korea.

The press release and poster for Yumiko Glover’s current exhibition, Pushing the Button 2,058 Times, at the Red Barn Project Space on UCSB’s Santa Barbara campus contains no PR hype or typical art marketing material, no text bragging about how the show will present ground-breaking material or test the limits of art practice in our time or any of the usual art-world bombast we see so often these days. Besides the necessary location and time information, it simply contains three quotes and their source:
On Thursday 15 May 2018 the Ventura arts community lost one of its long-time leaders and visionaries, Joe Cardella. Cardella had survived a difficult battle with esophageal cancer with the help of his primary caregivers, the photographer and videographer Dina Pielaet, the writer Amy Jones, and Jonell McClain. Joe had been spending time with fellow artists and friends as his strength allowed, but finally the cancer returned with new intensity.
